Sedation Dentistry Grosse Pointe Woods

Relax & Have a Comfortable Visit

At Grosse Pointe Dentistry and Implants, we understand that dental anxiety can prevent many patients from seeking necessary care. Sedation dentistry helps create a relaxed, comfortable experience for nervous patients. Our dentists offer both nitrous oxide and oral sedation to help you remain calm during your treatment while still being conscious and able to communicate throughout your visit.

Why Choose Grosse Pointe Dentistry and Implants for Sedation Dentistry?

  • Knowledgeable Team of Compassionate Dentists
  • Family-Owned & Operated Practice Since 1993
  • Our Patients Receive Personalized, High-Quality Care

Nitrous Oxide

Also known as "laughing gas," this mild sedative is administered through a small mask placed over your nose. You'll breathe normally, inhaling the nitrous oxide mixed with oxygen. Within minutes, you'll begin to feel relaxed and at ease.

Throughout your procedure, the sedation level can be adjusted for your comfort. You'll remain conscious and able to communicate with our team, but you'll feel detached from the sounds and sensations of treatment. Once your procedure is complete, the nitrous oxide is stopped, and you'll breathe pure oxygen for a few minutes. The sedative effects wear off quickly, allowing you to drive yourself home and resume normal activities immediately.

Oral Conscious Sedation

Oral sedation is administered either when you arrive at our practice or beforehand (you’ll pick up the medication from your local pharmacy if this is the case). The effects take about 30 minutes to kick in, but once they do, you’ll feel a calming wave come over you that will allow your appointment to fly by. You will remain conscious during your procedure, so you’ll be able to respond to our team and ask questions if you have any. Because the effects can linger for up to several hours, we recommend refraining from going back to work or doing physical activities for the rest of the day.

Benefits of Dental Sedation

Sedation dentistry at Grosse Pointe Dentistry and Implants helps anxious patients receive the dental care they need without stress or fear. It can make long or complex procedures feel shorter, reduce gag reflexes, and minimize discomfort. For many patients, sedation transforms dental visits from a dreaded experience to a manageable one.

  • Reduces dental anxiety
  • Makes long procedures comfortable
  • Minimizes gag reflex
  • Quick recovery time

Before recommending sedation, our dentists will review your medical history to ensure sedation dentistry is a safe option for you. When you arrive at your appointment, our team will explain the process and help you feel comfortable.
